AVAILIBLE INTERNSHIPS
Disaster Services Intern:
As a disaster services intern you will learn the many different aspects of
what is required to run a successful volunteer disaster response team. Tasks
the intern will perform include: maintain the Disaster Services Human Resources
database, develop training plans for individuals, update personnel files,
undergo disaster training, develop drills, respond to local events, and much,
much more!
Community Disaster Education (CDE) Intern:
CDE interns will be responsible for providing American Red Cross educational
outreach in the community. These interns will learn how to present information
regarding disaster preparedness to a variety of ages using different types of
media. CDE interns will also work with local Red Cross clubs and help train and
establish presentations.
Health & Safety Intern:
A Health & safety Intern will undergo CPR instructor training and become
a CPR/First Aid instructor. Interns must front the cost of the instructor
class, but after teaching alone three times, they will be eligible for a
refund. Health & Safety interns also learn how to set up for CPR classes,
sterilize manikins, change airways, and enter course records. This is a great
position for someone considering medical school.
Financial Development Intern:
Learn firsthand how a non profit office functions. Interns in this position
assist the office staff with a variety of tasks. Tasks may include: create
thank you letters, maintain databases, complete deposits, design display
boards, promoting fundraisers, writing grants, etc. Interns will not only use
and develop office skills, but they will also get a better understanding of how
a non-profit, made up of 96% volunteers, functions.
Youth Outreach Liaison
As an adult youth mentor and liaison your role is to work with local junior
high and high schools to enhance and grow out existing Red Cross Clubs.
Currently the clubs participate in health and safety fairs, and disaster
preparedness. Continued goals include developing Measles Initiative, such as
adopting a village, or educating youth about the Red Cross’ Service to Armed
Forces program. Mentoring can be a fulfilling and unique experience!
